Bilingual Secondary School
At the private bilingual secondary school at SIS Berlin, English and German are given equal weight, both as languages of instruction and in other parts of day-to-day school life. Generally, each subject is taught in one language – either German or English – at least for the duration of one academic year. As a rule, both languages are taught by native or near-native speakers.
Preparing for grades 11 to 13 of Secondary School
The curriculum in the secondary school (grades 7 to 10) builds on the skills and experience gained at primary level and is based on the Berlin state curriculum. With the transition to secondary school, students take on further responsibility for individual learning and are gradually prepared for the working methods in grades 11 to 13 of secondary school.
The extension of the academic learning through extracurricular activities is an integral part of our private day school in Berlin and students are encouraged to take part in them.
Students have a varied choice of activities ranging from musical activities, dance, chess and further languages, to a choice of different sports. The student interaction across grades promotes a strong sense of community which is visible in all areas of school life.
At the end of grade 10 students take the Mittlerer Schulabschluss examination (intermediate school leaving qualification) of the state of Berlin. They can then either start a professional education or continue their academic career in our Secondary School (grades 11 to 13), preparing them for the German Abitur (university entrance qualification) or, as an additional option, for the International Baccalaureate (IB).

Grades 7 to 10 of the Secondary School at SIS Berlin are officially recognised as Ersatzschule. In these grades, SIS is authorised to issue official progress reports and hold the examinations for the Mittlerer Schulabschluss (intermediate school leaving qualification). Please take note of this important information on the school's status.
