Züri Dance Award: from classroom to stage

Primary School Milestones and Achievements SIS Zürich-Wollishofen

Our Primary 5 students from SIS Zürich-Wollishofen took part in the Züri Dance Award on 28 March 2026 at Volkshaus Zürich, in what became one of the highlights of the school year. The exciting event showcased the talents of the “Cobras” and the “Chameleons”.

Our Primary 5 students at SIS Zürich-Wollishofen had been working incredibly hard for months in preparation for the Züri Dance Award. They were led by our English Year 5 teacher, Amy von Boyen, and supported by our German Year 5 teacher, Martin Siegrist. Together, they worked towards a performance that would become a true highlight of the school year for everyone involved.

The Journey to the Stage

What made the competition special was not just the final show, but the entire journey leading up to it. Since the beginning of the project, students have explored how to combine sports and dance in creative ways. As the Cobras and the Chameleons developed their performances, they experimented with movement, different types of choreography, and learned how to express these ideas as a team. It was amazing to watch their confidence and creativity grow over time.

From the first practice to the final rehearsals, every student played a role. They supported each other, shared ideas, and learned how to solve challenges together. This has been a great example of project-based learning in action, where students had ownership of their work and learned by doing. At the same time, the project gave them a chance to develop and showcase their talents in a new and exciting way.

Showtime

On 28 March 2026, the big day at Volkshaus Zürich was especially exciting because students had the chance to perform on a professional stage. For many of them, this was a completely new experience – the atmosphere, lights, and audience made it an unforgettable moment.

We are so proud of everything the Cobras and the Chameleons accomplished throughout this project. Their performance was live-streamed, so families and friends who couldn’t be there in person were able to watch and celebrate their creativity, dedication, and teamwork. It was a very proud moment for everyone at SIS Zürich-Wollishofen to see them take the stage and share their performance with others.
