On Thursday, 2 March 2023, SIS Regensburg celebrated Mother Tongue Day. This cultural day is celebrated world-wide on 21 February, but this fell in our break.
The day started with an introduction to the project day and a short video that was done by students in 2017.
Year 1 and 2 worked on songs that introduced us to ways of greeting in different languages. Year 3 and 4 together with a group of students worked to create our Language Tree with words representing the different languages at our school. These were collected thanks to a questionnaire that the students and parents filled out during the holiday break.
The students, in their house teams, created presentations on what language trees were present in their specific house, what similarities and differences can be analysed, as well as bringing personal experiences with learning different languages to the table.
The students and teachers had a great project day learning about the different cultures and languages that are represented at SIS Regensburg.
