How has transport shaped the way we live, work, and connect? This question guided our Unit of Inquiry: Transport. We began with old and modern maps of Basel, noticing how the River Rhine has always supported trade and travel. A visit to Basel’s port revealed containers, barges, and the global movement of goods. Students then ran a traffic survey, discovering cars outnumbered bicycles fourteen to one. They also enjoyed spotting planes flying low over our new school, linking learning to daily life. A highlight was building simple circuits to power model cars and trains, sparking questions and investigations. This learning has fostered curiosity, problem solving, and creativity—perhaps inspiring new car and train designs in the future!
