This year we enjoyed a magical "Räbeliechtliumzug." This is a Swiss tradition where lanterns are carved out of turnips. A procession then takes place with only the lanterns shining. Primary 1 and 2 students carved the turnips in their classrooms together with their upper grade buddies classes. This was a wonderful bonding experience, with the older students having the opportunity to lead the younger students.
Kindergarten students were able to take the turnips home and carve the turnips together with their families. The main event took place after dark at the school. Kindergarten through primary 2 students joined their families and teachers on a walk through the nearby gardens with their lanterns each containing a tea candle. At the gardens, students performed traditional songs for the guests.
Of course, hot punch was served for everyone to enjoy as well!
