Let’s Hike Together

Varied Lessons Student Life Local Impact SIS Schönenwerd

Students from Intro to Grade 6 at SIS Schönenwerd went on a whole-school hike to the forest on Friday, 12 June, and spent the day exploring and enjoying the fresh air. The annual hike brought together students and teachers of all ages for a day of adventure, teamwork, and fun in nature.

On Friday, 12 June, the entire SIS Schönenwerd community set out on a hike to the forest, which took about 45 minutes. The older students helped and encouraged the younger students, and everyone was feeling motivated and excited about the day ahead.
The walk was challenging for some, though the overall team spirit helped them through. Many students also noticed their fitness had greatly improved since they walked the same hike last year, and they found it much easier to complete. Some students even had enough energy to run the last part of the hike.

Time to Explore
Once everyone arrived in the forest, it was time to eat their snack and then explore. Students were encouraged to think of their own activities and discussed ideas with great enthusiasm. They enjoyed building huts, finding interesting stones and leaves, playing football on the grass, and letting their imaginations run wild. As long as they remained within sight of the teachers, they were free to play.

After a while, one of the teachers, Mr. Smith, lit a fire and the students were allowed to cook the sausages they brought. For dessert, there were delicious toasted marshmallows, which both the students and teachers thoroughly enjoyed. Then there was more playtime until it was time to tidy up. The goal was to leave the forest even tidier than it had been before the group arrived. Finally, it was time to walk back to school. There were some very tired students and teachers after a long day, though everyone enjoyed being outdoors and breathing in the fresh air. It is safe to say that everyone is already looking forward to next year’s hike! It was a wonderful day of team-building, with students of all ages working, playing, and supporting one another.
