Bilingual Learning on a Daily Basis, from Reception Programme to University Qualification

We offer continuous education at all levels and under the same roof: reception programme, primary school and secondary school. Subjects are taught at all levels in German and English; however, bilingualism is not a prerequisite for admission to the school. At our secondary school, we prepare young people for the German Abitur and optionally, for the globally recognised International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma*.

*planned for the school year 2024/25. We are currently in the candidacy phase for authorization as an IB World School.

Bilingual Reception Programme

The reception programme at SIS Kassel is intended for students from five to seven years of age and is affiliated to our primary school. In this reception programme the students are playfully introduced to the content of the primary school lessons, the routine and structure of a school day, so as to enable a smooth transition to the primary level.

Bilingual Primary School

At our primary school, students acquire high-level language skills in both German and English. We aim to empower students and give them a voice in their learning process.

Bilingual Secondary School

Secondary school students at SIS are encouraged and challenged to achieve two qualifications in two languages. Students will graduate from SIS Kassel with the Hessian Abitur. In addition, SIS Kassel plans to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) in grades 12 and 13 and seek official recognition as an IB World School. SIS Kassel is currently in the candidacy phase for authorization as an IB World School.*

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide a stimulating and academically challenging bilingual education within an atmosphere of mutual respect and support in order that all students reach their full potential and become lifelong learners.

We offer:

  • a curriculum that is designed and continually evaluated to meet local and international criteria and deliver a high standard of knowledge and skills
  • preparation for national and international qualifications (Abitur and International Baccalaureate Diploma*)
  • an appropriate student to teacher ratio to encourage and support individual abilities instruction and communication in the mother tongue of the teacher, inside and outside the classroom
  • teachers who focus on children’s natural inquisitiveness and their joy in making new discoveries – and who work hand in hand with parents to fulfil their respective roles in the children’s upbringing and education
  • easier access to and integration within the local community through language acquisition and understanding of the local culture

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP)*

With the IB Diploma students have the opportunity to obtain a globally recognised university entrance qualification.

SIS Kassel is a candidate school for the Diploma Programme. This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. IB World Schools share a common philosophy – a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education – that we believe is important for our students.

Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme (DP), or the Career-related Programme (CP). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted.
